BASIC AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION

ADVANCED LEVEL


Focus: For students to plan, develop and produce specific video projects.

EVALUATION:

1. A portfolio consisting of:

-story outline or storyboard

-shot list; e.g., camera angle, medium or close-up shot

-a video project (five to eight minutes) that demonstrates the student’s application of pre- and post-production planning

-a director’s notes or log book, which includes an edit decision list, revision entry for two of the following stages (pre-production, production and post-production) and one critique (minimum 150 words).

2.The planning and production of a two or three minutes video on an assigned topic, using incamera editing.

3. Observations of individual effort and interpersonal interaction during the instructional period, emphasizing:

-managing learning

-managing resources

-teamwork and leadership.

 

SKILLS COVERED:

  1. Develop an idea into the proposal, treatment plan/script, shot list, and/or "paper edit" stages
  2. Acquire a working knowledge of available video, lighting and sound equipment
  3. Select and research careers and contact professionals in video fields
  4. Produce a video project implementing pre- and post-production techniques
  5. Manipulate depth of field by varying focal length, focal distance and lighting conditions
  6. Use artificial and/or natural lighting techniques for video; e.g., adding or subtracting light
  7. Apply camera and editing techniques; e.g., cutting on movement, studio versus location shooting, in-camera editing, post-production editing, etc.
  8. Use sound in an effective and creative manner
  9. Present the final product to a target audience for feedback

Create a portfolio consisting of samples of their work from the various stages in the production process.
