The option classes in Information Processing afford students at all
grade levels the opportunity to choose from a variety of modules to work on for a term.
Students should strive to successfully complete all of the Module Learner
Expectations in a given module. In grade 8, students complete Computer Operations and
Keyboarading 1. In grade 9, students complete WordProcessing 1. Any student who completes
these modules, chooses his/her courses in a progression of Introductory, Intermediate,
Advanced (see chart) to acheive as many grade
12 Advanced CTS Credits as possible. If the module and/or test is successfully completed,
credit is assigned at that time.
Keep in mind each option course is one term in length, or approximately 12 to 13 weeks
(each module requires approximately 25 hours of instruction/work time to complete). All
assignments, projects and testing must be completed within that time. A brief description
of each module appears below. Be sure to notify your teacher regarding the module you wish
to work on. Some modules have pre-requisites, for example, Information Highway I must be
completed before Information Highway II.
INTRODUCTORY MODULES
Computer Operations (INF1010): Students develop personal use
skills basic to all modules in the Information Processing strand in the following
applications: file management, basic hardware and software operations, text entry and
workstation routines. Prequisite: None
Keyboarding 1 (INF1020): Students develop accurate
touch keystroking of text and data appropriate to personal use and the application
of efficient work station procedures. Prerequisite:Computer Operations
Word Processing 1 (INF1030): Students develop
skill in using basic commands and functions in word processing software, including
document editing, and the formatting and printing of reports, correspondence,
and tables suitable for personal use applications. Prerequisite:Computer Operations
Graphics Tools
(INFO1040): Students learn the basic commands and functions of computer graphics
software, including bitmapped images (paint program) and vector graphics (draw
program). Students also develop basic skills in manipulating existing graphics,
as well as in producing their own graphics. Prerequisite: Computer Operations
Info Highway 1 (INF1090): Students develop
personal use Internet skills for accesssing and communicating data and information,
with particular emphasis on the world wide web and e-mail. Prerequisite: Computer
Operations
Video 1 (COM1060): Students acquire basic production
skills through the use of simple audio and/or video equipment and techniques.
INTERMEDIATE MODULES
Wordprocessing 2
(INF 2050):Students expand their skills in using word processing software
commands and functions to produce mailable reports and correspondence, including
letters, memorandums and tables, all from rough draft copy. Prerequisite:Wordprocessing
1
Keyboarding 2 (INF2030): Students
enhance their personal use keyboarding competencies by increasing the reate
of accurate touch keystorking of the alphabetic, numeric and selected punctuation
keys. Prerequisite:Keyboarding 1
Info Highway 2 (INF2200): . Students
design, create, enhance and present a web page site using Macromedia Dreamweaver
.. Prerequisite: Information Highway 1
Electronic
Publishing 1 (INF 2060):Students develop skill, using electronic/desktop
publishing software to create a variety of camera-ready documents.Prerequisite:
Graphics Tools
Video 2 (COM2090): Students
expand on basic audio/video production techniques. Prerequisite:
Video 1
ADVANCED MODULES
Keyboarding
3 (INF2040): Students enhance their keyboarding competencies, by
increasing the rate of accurate touch keystroking of alphabetic, numeric and
all punctuation keys to support personal use and limited, entry-level, workplace
opportunities. Prerequisite:Keyboarding 2
Electronic
Publishing 2 (INF 3070) Students
use the functions and commands of electronic/desktop publishing software as
they integrate text composing, editing, typesetting, graphics generation and
page layout functions to create customized, professional, quality documents.
Prerequisite: Electonic Publishing 1
Wordprocessing
3 (INF 3060): Students develop occupational-level competence in the use
of word processing software commands and functions to produce mailable reports,
correspondence and tables, including the importing and merging of text, data
and graphics. Prerequisite: Word Processing 2
Video 3 (COM3110): Students plan, develop and produce specific video projects. Prerequisite: Video 2
Marks are based on a simple average of all assignments given. Student are encouraged to correct mistakes on assignments and re-submit them for marking. Assignments will NOT be accepted beyond the term deadlines.
